About us

We are a team of practitioners from the specialisms of occupational health and safety, general medical practice, general dental practice and psychiatry. See Contact Us to get in touch with any of us.

The core team members are as follows:

Lesley Abbott (RGN,DipOHN,MIOSH,MSc) and Sue Burke(BSc, RGN,DIpOHN,MIOSH) - Occupational Health Nurse Specialists; With experience in management and the delivery of occupational health services to a wide variety of employee groups. They manage the OH Service and assist in the development of service strategy and direction. They also visit Practices to support a variety of OH activities.

Dr Ben Charnaud (MB BSc.BCh MRCPsych) - Consultant Psychiatrist with a Special Interest in Occupational Health issues. Ben's role in the service is to do detailed assessments of staff referred through the occupational health system and advise on options available. Confidentiality is a very important issue that is recognised throughout the service and all referees are given a code number, which they are known by while receiving a period of treatment. Ben's assessments usually last in excess of two hours and so when booking do say whether you want tea or coffee!

Sue Bond (RGN, OHNC) and Ellen Cole (RGN, BScOH) - Occupational Health Nurse Specialists; are responsible, with the support of Sue and Lesley for the day to day delivery of the Service.

Dr David Longdon (MBChB) - GP Co-ordinator; David is a full time GP who has acted as a Service co-ordinator linking Occupational Health with Primary Care since 1999.

Mr Malcolm Prideaux (BDS DPDS) - Dental Co-ordinator; Malcolm is a General Dental Practitioner based in Plymouth and Yelverton. He provides support and advice on dental issues to the OH team.

Dr Andy Stewart (MBBS DRCOG MRCGP) GP co-ordinator; Andy is a fulltime GP who acts as the GP co-ordinator for Cornwall.

Sharon Trevarthen (NEBOSH) - Administrator; Based at the Plymouth office, Sharon provides secretarial and admin back up to all of the OH Team.

Dr Gerard Woodroof (MSc FFOM MIOSH) - Consultant Occupational Physician; Gerard has been with the project from the start and provides advice on the service as a whole as well as responding to specific clinical enquiries. His "day job" is in the acute Trusts, but from the inception of our service he was keen that it should develop in a way best suited to the needs of primary care, and was not just seen as the acute trusts "graciously allowing" GPs and their staff access to their services! Gerard gets involved in writing the OH advice manual, and again tries to pitch it at a level useful to those working in practices rather than large organisations.
